Born in 1964 in Fez, Morocco, Amina Alaoui was introduced to traditional
Arabo-Andalusian music and Western classical music from an early age.
Specializing in the transmission of gharnati music, originally from Granada
(Spain), by the masters of the genre, the musician and singer made her recording
debut in 1995. Since then, she has released a number of eclectic yet respectful
albums(Alcantara, 1998) and collaborated with Rachid Taha. Siwan (2009), with
Norwegian pianist Jon Balke, and Arco Iris (2011), are both published by ECM.
