American indie singer-songwriter Angel Olsen was born Angelina Maria Carroll on
January 22, 1987, in St. Louis, Missouri. During her adolescence, she joined a
local rock band called Good Fight and then began performing solo in local coffee
shops before relocating to Chicago in 2006. There, she quickly became a part of
the city’s thriving independent music scene through a series of collaborations
with the Cairo Gang and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Strange Cacti, her debut EP,
appeared in 2011 and was followed by her first LP Half Way Home a year later.
