Born on 9 July 1991 in Gävle, Swedish singer and songwriter Clara Hagman, known professionally as Clara Mae, got her start as a member of Swedish pop group Ace of Base in 2009, after garnering national attention on singing competition Next Star, where she wowed with her performance of the Whitney Houston classic "I Will Always Love You." Replacing former members Jenny and Linn Berggren, she was an active member of Ace of Base until 2012, with whom she released the album The Golden Ratio.
