A well-known songwriter on the independent scene, notably through the groups
Galaxie 500 and Luna, which he founded, or the duo Dean & Britta with Britta
Phillips, Dean Wareham has also demonstrated his writing finesse as a solo
artist. Born in Wellington, New Zealand, on August 1, 1963, he founded the
Galaxie 500 trio in 1986 with Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang (future Damon &
Naomi), for three cult albums: Today (1988), On Fire (1989) and This Is Our
