This cousin of John Lee Hooker began his career in Memphis, recording for Sun,
before moving to Chicago, where he became one of the most sought-after
guitarists on stage and in the studio. His featured work is limited, but of
incomparable instrumental quality. Influenced by Robert Nighthawk as much as by
country music virtuoso Joe Maphis, Earl Hooker was a swift, precise, sensitive
and innovative guitarist until his death from tuberculosis.
