Floating Points
Born in Manchester in 1986, neuroscientist and experimental electronic musician
Sam Shepherd received critical acclaim from the music press under the name
Floating Points with his 2015 debut album Elaenia. Originally conceived as a
single piece, Shepherd eventually adopted a more conventional format and cut the
recording into seven sections. A prodigious talent indeed, his creations were
every bit as groundbreaking as early Mike Oldfield or Tangerine Dream. He had
previously played with the Floating Points Ensemble, a fluid group of talented
