Gordon Beck – born September 16, 1935 in Brixton, London, England – was a
British jazz pianist and composer. He was taught to play piano by his father,
who was a violinist. He moved to Canada in 1957 to pursue a career as an
engineering technical draughtsman. While in Canada, he was introduced to the
recorded works of Bill Evans, George Shearing and Dave Brubeck. Inspired to
follow music as a career, he returned to England in 1958. He became a
