This pianist, inspired by Charlie Brown, Leroy Carr and Nat King Cole, drew on a
bluesy, "West Coast" universe to create naïve, catchy and gentle melodies. This
work led to a number of hits, including "My Wish Came True" - covered by Elvis
Presley. Once dubbed the "Baron of Boogie", Ivory Joe recorded until 1968 for a
number of record companies, usually surrounded by prestigious bands ("Guess Who"
with Duke Ellington's orchestra in 1949).
