James Mason
One of the most enigmatic figures in recent music history, guitarist and
keyboardist James Mason delivered a single jazz funk album before vanishing
completely from the music industry shortly after. Following a stint as Roy
Ayers’ guitar player in the late 70s, Mason released Rhythm of Life, his studio
debut, in 1977. Featuring vocalist Clarice Taylor, Narada Michael Walden on
drums, bassist Gene Torres, and saxophonist Justo Almario, the LP saw the light
via the independent label Chiaroscuro and was considered a commercial failure
