With his schoolboy looks and fragile, youthful voice, Sweden's Jay-Jay Johanson (b. 1969) is the antithesis of the 1950s crooner. A little-known artist, he became a specialist in melancholy songs with the delicate albums Whiskey (1996) and Tattoo (1998). Ten years on, this discreet singer continues to craft minimalist electro pop on his albums Self Portrait (2009) and Spellbound (2011). His success, particularly in France, continues unabated, and twenty years after his debut, he can celebrate this consistency with the release of his tenth album, Opium (2015).
