Born and raised in Texas, Jeannie C. Riley grew up quickly, becoming a wife and
mother by the age of 21. Determined to have a career in music, Riley and her
family moved to Nashville where she found work as a secretary at a record label
and began recording demos in her spare time. In 1968 she recorded Harper Valley
PTA, a single which would go on to reach the number one spot on both the
Billboard and Country Charts as well as receiving a Grammy Award for Best Female
