Karat
Karat is a German rock and progressive rock band that began in the former East
Germany in 1975. Formed from the ashes of a jazz fusion band Karat took a more
melodic rock and than jazz approach with prog rock lyrics by poet Kurt Demmler
and later by journalist Norbert Kaiser. Although initially operating from behind
the Iron Curtain within a highly censored cultural environment, Karat were able
to sell into both their home state and West Germany with their successful LP
'Der Blaue Planet' in 1982. The band continued to gig and produce albums and
