Born Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir on 23 April 1999 in Reykjavík, Iceland to an
Icelandic father and Chinese mother, the jazz-influenced bedroom popstar known
as Laufey moved between her homeland and the US during her childhood, which
ultimately played a part in shaping her musical style. She initially set her
sights on a classical path, performing as a cello soloist with the Iceland
Symphony Orchestra at just 15, before expanding her remit to appear on the 2014
