Born on February 22, 1948 in Beringel, Portugal, Linda de Suza (née Teolinda Joaquina de Sousa Lança) began her career in France, where she arrived with her son at the age of 21. Settling in Paris in 1973, she worked in a variety of occupations, including chambermaid and café singer. Noticed by a producer and signed by the Carrère label, she scored an immediate hit in 1978 with her song "Le Portugais", with which the Portuguese community living in France identified.
