Disconcerting, inevitably disconcerting, Mari Boine's musical universe attempts
to communicate the ancient shamanic sounds of Lapland to today's world. Mari
Boine is far from glitzy and superficial, and not by chance recognized by Peter
Gabriel and Jan Garbarek, she strives to marry Saami traditions with jazz and
electro sounds. Since 1985's Jaskatvuoda Mannà, Mari Boine's career has been far
from the beaten track, and was consecrated by Gula Gula in 1989. Sterna
Paradisea in 2009 marks a further step in this extraordinary career.
