Matt Maeson's blend of alt-rock and indie-folk earned the songwriter his first
Number 1 hit in 2019, when the debut single "Cringe" topped the Alternative
Airplay chart in America and went platinum. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on
January 17, 1993, Maeson was raised in nearby Virginia Beach by missionary
parents who forbade the broadcast of secular music in the family household.
Nonetheless, he began playing guitar at 15 years old and was soon writing his
own songs, with "Cringe" introducing his modern sound in 2016. Initially, the
