Singer-songwriter Melanie – born Melanie Safka in Queens, New York on February
3, 1947 - reached prominence in the early 70s with a string of hit songs within
the folk, pop, and country genres. As a teenager, she started performing in the
folk clubs of Greenwich Village, which led to her first recording contract.
Melanie had a hit with the 1969 song “Bobo’s Party,” which was a number 1 hit in
France. She toured through Europe and received acclaim for her debut album, Born
