Michèle Arnaud was born Micheline Caré in Toulon on March 18, 1919, and has performed with Léo Ferré, Georges Brassens and Serge Gainsbourg, among others. She studied literature, then law at the École libre des Sciences-Politiques and philosophy, before deciding to become a singer. In 1952, she made her debut at the Milord l'Arsouille cabaret, owned by none other than her husband Francis Claude. He gave Michèle Arnaud her first hit with "L'île Saint-Louis" (1952), written by Léo Ferré, followed by "Tu voulais", which won the Grand Prix de la chanson française in Deauville, before...
