Nick Cave is renowned as a vocalist, guitarist, drummer, composer, actor,
artist, screenwriter and author as part of an expansive skill set which began in
the early 1970s with the formation of The Boys Next Door, a chaotic band in the
vanguard of Melbourne's post-punk scene. The Boys Next Door relocated to London,
re-invented themselves as The Birthday Party and their uncompromising, sometimes
violent, stage shows began to lay down the foundations for the dark, gothic
