German tenor and conductor Peter Schreier was a renowned member of the Dresdner
Kreuzchor and Berlin State Opera. He began his career in a 1957 Dresdner
Staatsoper performance of Beethoven's 'Fidelio', landing his breakthrough roles
in 1962 as Belmonte in Mozart's 'Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail' and Tamino in
'The Magic Flute'.
A member of Berlin State Opera and a regular guest of Vienna State Opera, he
became one of just a handful of German singers to perform internationally, most
