Female country supergroup Pistol Annies arrived on the scene in 2011 with a mix of rootsy bluegrass harmonies and twangy, honky tonk hooks, with songs that told of drinking, divorce and recreational drug use. Miranda Lambert was already well established as a country star with two top ten hit albums when she met up-and-coming singer Ashley Monroe and the pair spent an evening listening to tracks by a Nashville songwriter with whom Monroe had been collaborating.
