One of the most popular female groups in Indonesian history, Ratu formed in
Jakarta in 1999. Keyboardist Maia Estianty and pop singer Pinkan Mambo comprised
the band's original lineup and released their debut album, Bersama, in 2003.
Featuring R&B-influenced songs written by Estianty and her then-husband, Ahmad
Dhani, the album was a commercial success, winning two awards at the 2003 MTV
Ampuh Awards and selling more than 250,000 copies in Indonesia. Work on a
follow-up album was postponed in October 2004, when Mambo quit the group.
