Reinbert De Leeuw was a renowned Dutch conductor and composer. He built a
reputation on being a champion of music by Charles Ives, forming the Dutch
Charles Ives Society in 1969. He later turned his attention to the work of
Arnold Schoenberg, forming the Schoenberg Ensemble to perform works by
Schoenberg and that of other contemporary composers.
De Leeuw could regularly be seen at the podium of the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra of The Netherlands as well as Sinfonietta Amsterdam and Netherlands
