René Pape
A German opera singer who emerged in the early 1990s, René Pape is the most
eminent bass voice of his generation. First noticed in the Dresden Desdner
Kreuzchor, where he made his debut at the age of eight, he went on to cause a
sensation in Mozart's Requiem in 1991 and The Magic Flute in 1995, the year he
made his debut at New York's Metropolitan Opera. Blessed with a powerful timbre,
René Pape is naturally a great interpreter of the Wagnerian repertoire, from
Lohengrin to Tristan und Isolde, and an eclectic singer who tackles
