The Durutti Column
Formed in 1978 in Manchester, The Durutti Column is first and foremost the band
of Vini Reilly, a guitarist with a passion for jazz who was drawn to punk.
Signed to Factory Records, they developed a cutting-edge aesthetic oriented
towards experimental rock and electronica. His first albums, The Return of the
Durutti Column (1980), Another Setting (1982) and Without Mercy (1984), remain
benchmarks for a music based on atmosphere and improvisation. In 1989, Vini
Reilly opened up to samples in an album of the same name, then moved into other
