Zachary Richard is Cajun, i.e. a descendant of the Acadians deported to
Louisiana by the English. He divides his career between the United States,
Canada and France. He modernized the traditional "Travailler c'est trop dur" to
make it a classic, dividing his songwriting between French and English,
sometimes delightfully mixing the two in a sonic jambalaya. His two most
successful albums perfectly reflect this duality: 1990's Women in a Room is
mainly sung in English, while 1997's Cap Enragé is purely French. 2007 saw the
release of Lumière dans le Noir, a new album in French.
